These earrings are made from a split geode from the Tabasco region in mexico. Each half measures approximately one inch by one-half of an inch. The outsides are electroformed in copper and they hang from sterling silver ear wires. The copper won't touch your skin, but it has been sealed to slow discoloration and oxidization.
Tabasco Geode Earrings
Electroforming is a process that deposits copper onto a conductive object over time using an acidic solution and electric current. I electroform my jewelry for 36 to 48 hours and then refine and polish the pieces. Wikipedia offers a thorough explanation of the science behind electroforming: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroforming
